Opportunities are created for maximum participation in
each code.
- Whilst all sport is played on a competitive basis,
great importance is placed on the spirit in
which it is played. Good sportsmanship, enjoyment and commitment to the
sport is vital.
- Parents are urged to uphold our aims and support us in
this endeavour as children learn
best by example.
- Should you need to contact the teacher in charge of a
certain extra-mural, his/her name
is provided on each of the different sports codes
- Any parent who would like to assist us in coaching by
offering their expertise and time will
be very welcome.

CLUB |
|

For the creative at heart! Come along and let your artistic
talent shine. All Grades are welcome.
Art Club takes place on a Thursday afternoon.

Convenor: Mr G Van Der Linde
Athletics is held in the first and last term. In the first term we
have Inter House Athletics, where the learners qualify to be part of
the athletics team. Other athletes may also attend practises in
order to improve. The school team participates at the Inter School
Athletics Championships, where athletes stand to qualify for the
Germiston team and even the Gauteng Championships. Our athletes are
required to play by the rules, show pride in their school and be
respectful to their competitors. We hope you will join us for the
fun and excitement of the Athletics Season.

CHESS |

Chess is an all year 'sport' at Edenglen Primary and each player
plays for points all year, which allows us to
determine how they are
progressing.
Chess takes place on Monday afternoons in the
Auditorium from 14h00 to
15h00.

At Edenglen Primary we have both a senior & junior choir. Boys and
girls are both welcome to attend. Our main focus is song and
movement and of course having fun.
Each year we participate in the
Eisteddfod.
It's hard work but also very rewarding.
Senior choir practise is on Friday afternoons from 13h30 to 14h30
Junior choir practise is on Wednesday afternoons from 13h45 to 14h45

COMPUTER CLUB |

Edenglen is going techno! Grades 1 and 2's are invited to
come and enjoy a fun and stimulating afternoon in
our beautiful Computer Lab, learning the most updated and
effective IT Skills, using the
Knowledge Network Progressive Learning Programme.

CRICKET |

Our Mini-cricket and U11 & U13 teams have done very well this
season. We are extremely proud of how our cricketers play and
conduct themselves during away matches. With IPL and Twenty20
cricket very much a part of the South African sports scene, we look
forward to seeing some of our boys showing their talent on the
international pitch one day!

At this stage we field two teams at the Southern
Gauteng League.
We are
grateful to have a number of
qualified coaches and umpires at our
school.

Dancing is an energetic and self-expressive activity
for our budding ballerinas, cheerleaders and
hip-hoppers! So far this year our dancing boys and
girls have learnt the basics of many dance forms.
They are so brilliant that they can even make a
human pyramid! Dancing is a fun way for children of
all ages to stay fit, build self-confidence and
express themselves.
Come along and enjoy the vibe.

Speech & Drama is a fun and interactive
extra-mural offered to all grades. Practise is
held weekly and our learners have the
chance to perform in front of large audiences.
A highlight is the Annual Lethabo Festival
in which our young performers participate
during the third term. Through activities such as theatre sports, fun games, choral verse
and poetry, our learners are given
opportunities to develop self-confidence,
teamwork and of course have loads of fun
in the process!

GAMES CLUB |

Games are offered as an extra-mural for learners in the Foundation
Phase (Gr 1-3) who do not want to take part in other sports. It is
an opportunity for them to experience old fashioned games.
They
learn to follow simple rules and co-operate with each other and have
fun.
Games Club is held on Wednesdays.

HOCKEY |

At Edenglen Primary School we pride ourselves in making the hockey
experience as enjoyable as possible. All of our players from
Grade 1 to Grade 7 take part in a fun league with Dunvegan,
Bedfordview and other neighbouring schools.
Hockey practise
takes place in the third term on Tuesdays &
Wednesdays and matches are played on Thursdays.

Being one of our main competitive sports, netball is always a
highlight at Edenglen Primary. This years Netball season was again a
fun, friendly & exciting one. Our girls participated in a Netball
tournament at Holy Rosary School, where they had the opportunity to
interact with & compete against other schools.
Netball takes place in the 2nd term and we offer Mini Netball too
for our Grade 1 & 2 girls.

Convenor: Mr Cain
2010 fever is starting to hit our shores and all the soccer boys &
girls are keen to show off their soccer skills. At Edenglen emphasis
is not placed on winning but rather the enjoyment of the game and
team spirit.
Soccer season is enjoyed by all during Term 2.
Our
boys are very
enthusiastic about learning ball skills and ball
control.
Even at this tender age, they have aspirations of
one day playing in the "Big Team" and earning
millions.

Our swimming team are enthusiastic and very competitive. They
practise hard and their strong team spirit is evident at our school
galas.
Training is held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 14h15 to 15h00 at the
Edenvale Municipal Pool and exciting local galas are held every
Friday and once a year,
we also participate in a friendly inter-school evening gala at Bedfordview Primary School.
Thank you to all the supportive parents who
help with transport... without you swimming at Edenglen Primary
would not be the success that it is.
