We are an English medium, co-educational primary school operating as part of the Gauteng Department of Education. Our proud history Edenglen Primary welcomed its first learners in 1978. We had just eight teachers and a single secretary, ably led by Principal SW Kieser. Since building of the Senior block was still underway, the student body was comprised of Grades 1 through 3 learners. Soccer and Netball were played, albeit with great enthusiasm, in the car park. Just a year later in January 1979, classes for Grade 4 to Grade 7 commenced with a full staff complement. Pupils wore the new school uniform with pride for the first time. The Edenvale Sports Club was commandeered to play sport. By the time the school was officially opened on 17 August 1979 by the Director of Education, Professor Dr JH Jooste, it was already full to capacity. The immigrant class was at the back of the hall and one Grade 1 class accommodated on the stage. By 1981, the school had grown enough to warrant the appointment of two heads of department. The following year was a big year for our sports programme: our long-awaited sports field was levelled, and grass planted. The netball fields and tennis courts were likewise completed. Shortly thereafter, for the first time in the then Transvaal, a Primary Soccer School Team, consisting of 22 boys, toured to the UK and Europe. Over the past three decades, the school has flourished. A Resource Centre was opened in 2005, as envisioned by past principal Mrs Rademan. An Art Room, Music Room and a Crèche have since been added, creating an even more nurturing environment for our learners – who remain our most treasured assets. That first intake of 252 children has grown to a current enrollment of over 1 300 children. Edenglen Primary continues to attract a high calibre of staff and has become a sought-after institution of learning by its surrounding community. Our vision and mission Our School Prayer: I shall pass through this world but once. Any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being or animal, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again. We regard our school as a large family in which every single member connected to the school is important. We work to create a friendly, happy atmosphere in our school, where pupils are loved and encouraged to develop intellectually, spiritually, morally, socially, and physically. To strive to provide the best education possible. To cultivate an atmosphere of mutual respect. To work together as a team, i.e. the educators, parents, learners, the community, and the Gauteng Education Department. To assist those learners who are in need of extra attention, i.e. remedial and feeding schemes, etc. To maintain good discipline so as to ensure that no unwarranted disruption of academic or extra-curricular activities takes place. To inculcate pride in school and its standing in the community. To put into practice our School Prayer and School Motto: ‘Knowledge for Life’ . Edenglen has pupils from many different backgrounds; however, we stress that all people are of one race: ‘The Human Race’. Our school Motto 'KNOWLEDGE FOR LIFE' supports this attitude, and encourages an environment in which self-esteem, independence, responsibility, and tolerance can grow and thrive. School Code of Conduct Security The safety of your child/ren is of the utmost importance to the school and its staff. Reminder of various safety procedures in place. All gates except the main entrance to the offices are locked between 07:40 and 13:55. Gates are only opened at drop off and collection times. We have full time Mamba security patrolling the premises during the day. The school has CCTV surveillance in all open areas around the school buildings. Individual Grades have their respective drop off and collection gates. We ask that older siblings, parents/guardians or transporters collect their younger siblings at their respective gates. Red and yellow lines painted on the road means NO parking is allowed. Driveways of residents and school access points are not parking areas. U-turns may not be made on any of the roads surrounding the school. Heydenrych Street is a one-way street with traffic flowing from Wagenaar to Greef and beyond. Greef Street is a one-way street only between peak hours Children may only cross the road at Scholar Patrol points. Remember there is a speed limit around the school.

Please note that we are working on updating this section of our website. Executive Ms Heather Broodryk Principal Ms Broodryk is Principal of Edenglen Primary School. She is committed to maintaining standards of excellence for children from all walks of life. Ms Broodryk believes in providing holistic education so that every child is given the opportunity to shine. She credits the staff and the partnership with parents for developing not only academic achievers, but also individuals in with an impeccable value system. Ms Rebecca Auckland Deputy Principal Ms Auckland is a firm believer that every child has a unique and special potential that needs to be uncovered and made into something beautiful. She is passionate about making a difference in the lives of teachers and children and believes that if children love school, she has achieved an important goal in helping the child to reach self-actualisation. Mrs Corlia Vorster Deputy Principal Mrs Vorster believes that every child has the ability to achieve success. She constantly strives to empower teachers and learners, and provide them with opportunities to reach their full potential. Together we attain "Knowledge for Life". Ms Louise North Departmental Head (Foundation Phase) Ms North has joined our team at Edenglen Primary School with a spirit of compassion and love for the teaching fraternity. She advocates kindness, firmly believing that respect, tolerance and acceptance emanates from it. Based on this foundation, she seeks to aspire our learners to lead a life of significance and purpose. Mrs Sanet Eksteen Departmental Head (Intermediate Phase) Mrs. Eksteen has been at Edenglen Primary since 2004, starting as a teacher in the Intermediate Phase. She has been the subject convenor for Afrikaans since 2004 and Life Skills since 2018. She was a Grade Head for ten years for Grade 4 and the Head of Culture from 2004 till 2024. She managed and directed concerts over the years as well as organising participation in Eisteddfods. She became a Departmental Head in 2016. Mrs. Eksteen leads by example. She sets goals and keeps at them. She is open for ideas from different perspectives. She is creative and has innovative ideas and an asset in a team as she can initiate and follow. Mrs Taryn Maconochie Departmental Head (Foundation Phase) Children are unique, each with their own way of learning, exploring and experiencing the world. Education should be a journey that sparks curiosity and fosters a love for learning. Mrs Mac's motto is simple; when children love school, they thrive. By creating an environment where they feel excited, supported and inspired, we can help them build a lifelong passion for education. A learner who loves school approaches challenges with enthusiasm, grows in confidence and develops the skills needed to succeed. When children find joy in learning, their potential is limitless. Ms Paige Donnelly Departmental Head (Intermediate Phase) Ms Donnelly knows how essential it is to appreciate the value in nurturing young minds through an all encompassing framework. She believes inarguably, that each student's uniqueness and dedication is what shapes his/ her future, but positive and consistent parental involvement is the real key to unlocking a child's true capabilities. Ms Donnelly sees teaching and mentorship as a rewarding profession that requires dedication, empathy, and an openness to being a life long learner herself. Whilst many schools host an annual “Big Walk”, the PA wanted a walk with a difference – a walk that would encourage families to spend time together and interact with one another in a spirit of community building. This year, on Saturday 3 February, the PA surpassed even its own expectations by selling a whopping 1 200 tickets to the event! Parents and children alike rose to the challenge and dressed in whatever funky, super hero outfit they could find. Those who were more sedate in nature were content just to participate in the 5km walk, whilst the more athletically minded decided to sprint in record time. Even the teachers led by example, with the water points manned (or should we also say womanned?) by staff in funky super hero costumes! The Funky Walk really did prove to be a community project. As soon as we sold our 1 000th ticket, organisers had to move fast to arrange ambulances on standby on the field, as per municipal regulations. Eager to contribute towards the festive atmosphere and to ensure that the day would not be marred by any unforeseen injuries or calamities, not one but three ambulances came to our rescue to stand guard at the Finish Line. Fortunately, their services were not required, but we went the extra mile to make sure that nothing was left to chance. After an exuberant race to the end, many families stayed behind to recharge their batteries and feast on tasty food like Prego rolls, boerewors rolls, hamburgers and hotdogs. Spot prizes were given to those who had entered the race and the fun continued long after the race had ended. To all the PA members who organised the Funky Walk, kudos to you for a superb event and a big thank you to the teachers for working from 06:30 until the race had ended. To the parents, children and community members who participated in this event, we extend a special word of appreciation for making the day such a huge success. Roll on 2019 – we can’t wait to see what a fantastic event the next Funky Walk will be! We would also like to extend a big thank you to the PA – all the parent and the partners of the PA who give up precious time to make events successful and fun for everyone. The first day in Grade One proved to be an exciting event for most of our learners. The children were excited to meet their teachers for the first time and to see where they would sit. Of course, most importantly, they couldn’t wait to see what their lunch boxes contained! New friendships were forged over sandwiches and tasty delights which had been packed for this special day. Fears overcome, there was much fun to be had as boys and girls played together on the jungle gym and told their new friends all about themselves. After handing in books and stationery, some children went on a tour of the school and were shown two of the most important places in a school – the toilets and the tuck shop. Then it was back to some fun learning and before you knew it, the bell had rung and it was time to go home. Only one more sleep before the fun would begin all over again!
